Reinhild Frech-Emmelmann is Best Organic Farmer in the EU

We are very happy!
On the occasion of EU Organic Day, the official award ceremony for the EU Organic Awards 2024 took place in Brussels on September 23. A jury, consisting of representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, IFOAM Organics Europe, and other organizations, selected the winners from a range of European organic projects that had made it to the final selection in a total of 8 categories. Reinhild is the winner in the category of "Best Organic Farmer in the EU." Congratulations!
Recognition of a Lifetime Achievement
More than 25 years ago, Reinhild founded ReinSaat with the vision of producing seeds for 300.000 hectares on 3 hectares of land. Today, the farm covers 30 hectares – including 1 hectare of greenhouse space. The product range includes over 700 varieties of open-pollinated, biodynamic, and organically grown vegetable, herb, and flower seeds. With around 50 employees, ReinSaat is also an important and meaningful employer in the region. The award for "Best Organic Farmer in the EU" recognizes Reinhild's tireless commitment to ecological, sustainable farming and the preservation of biodiversity.
EU Organic Awards
The EU Organic Awards, launched in 2022 as part of the European Action Plan for Organic Agriculture, recognize outstanding projects along the entire value chain in the field of organic agriculture – from farmers to restaurants to regions. The aim of the award is to honor innovative and exemplary projects that improve access to organic products in the EU and promote their affordability.

EU Draft on New Genetic Engineering
As yet, 99% of crop production in the EU is GMO-free. However, if the EU Commission's current proposal is adopted, this could soon change. New genetic engineering methods would then be allowed to be used without risk assessment and sold without labelling of the products.
